Stretching over 7.5 kilometers (4.6 miles), the Skyrail Cableway provides a bird's-eye view of the ancient rainforest canopy, taking passengers on a journey through the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics of Queensland. The journey begins at the Smithfield Terminal, just a short drive from Cairns, where visitors embark on gondolas that gracefully glide above the treetops.
As the gondolas ascend, a panorama of emerald green unfolds beneath, punctuated by cascading waterfalls, rugged mountains, and an array of exotic flora and fauna. The cableway comprises comfortable, eco-friendly gondolas equipped with informative audio commentary, allowing passengers to learn about the unique ecosystems that thrive below.
One of the highlights of the Cairns Skyrail experience is the opportunity to alight at two mid-stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls, where boardwalks meander through the rainforest, offering up-close encounters with its inhabitants. At Red Peak, visitors can explore the forest floor, while Barron Falls provides a spectacular vantage point of the eponymous waterfall, particularly breathtaking during the wet season when it roars to life in a thunderous display of nature's power.
